QuickHR
Setup guide

Connect your ZKTeco device to QuickHR.

QuickHR's "Connect & Fetch" screen asks for three things: the device's IP address, its port, and its Comm Key (the device's own communication password). This guide covers setting a fixed IP on the device so it doesn't change, and exactly where to find all three values on the device itself.

What QuickHR asks for

Three fields on the Connect & Fetch screen, all read directly from the device.

IP address

Where the device lives on your network

A local address like 192.168.1.201. The computer running QuickHR needs to be on the same network to reach it.

DefaultAssigned by DHCP
Port

The channel the device talks over

Almost every ZKTeco terminal uses the same port out of the box, so this rarely needs to change.

Default4370
Comm Key

The device's own connection password

Not your QuickHR license key — this is a separate password stored on the biometric device itself, sometimes set by whoever installed it.

Default0 (blank)
Do this once per device

Set a static IP on the device.

If the device keeps its address on DHCP, it can quietly change after a power cut or router restart — and QuickHR will stop connecting until you find the new one. Give it a fixed address instead. Menu names below match most K40 / iFace / SpeedFace / MB-series terminals; yours may be worded slightly differently.

1

Open the device menu

On the terminal itself (not QuickHR), press Menu or M/OK on the keypad, or tap the menu icon on touchscreen models, from the main idle screen.

2

Open the network settings

Go into the communication settings, then Ethernet. This screen shows the device's current IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and port together.

Menu → Comm. → Ethernet
3

Turn DHCP off

Find DHCP on that same screen and set it to Off. This stops the router from reassigning the address later.

If DHCP stays on, treat whatever address is showing as temporary — it's worth switching this off before you note down an IP for QuickHR.
4

Enter a fixed IP, subnet mask & gateway

Pick an address on the same network as the computer running QuickHR — matching the first three numbers is usually enough, e.g. 192.168.1.201 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.1.1. Ask whoever manages your office network if you're not sure which range to use.

5

Save and restart the device

Press OK or ESC to save, back out to the idle screen, and power-cycle the terminal if the new address doesn't seem to apply right away.

Reading the device

Find the IP, port & Comm Key.

Both screens live under the same Comm. menu you were just in — nothing extra to unlock.

Illustrative values — your device will show its own IP and whatever Comm Key was set (or left blank) when it was installed.

Setting Menu path Typical default Note
IP address Menu → Comm. → Ethernet DHCP-assigned Switch DHCP off first, so it stops changing on its own.
Port Menu → Comm. → Ethernet 4370 Only change this if your network firewall blocks it.
Comm Key Menu → Comm. → Comm Key 0 (blank) Leave the password blank in QuickHR if it was never set.
Subnet & gateway Menu → Comm. → Ethernet 255.255.255.0 Should match your office router's settings.
Last step

Enter these into QuickHR.

Open QuickHR, go to Connect & Fetch, and type in the IP address, port, and Comm Key exactly as they appear on the device. Click Connect & Fetch — every punch on the device merges into your permanent local history, and the fields are remembered for next time.

If it won't connect

Common connection issues.

Most connection problems come down to one of these four things.

QuickHR can't reach the device at all

Confirm the device and the computer running QuickHR are on the same network, the Ethernet cable is plugged in, and the device's idle screen shows a network icon rather than a crossed-out one.

It worked yesterday, not today

This is almost always DHCP quietly handing out a new address after a power cut or router restart. Go back into Comm. → Ethernet, switch DHCP off, and set the fixed IP again.

Comm Key is rejected

Try leaving the password blank first — that's the factory default. If someone else installed the device, ask them whether a Comm Key was set.

Everything looks right and it still fails

Some office firewalls or antivirus tools block port 4370 outbound. Ask your IT contact to allow it for the computer running QuickHR, or try temporarily disabling the firewall to confirm that's the cause.
